Secrets Hidden Behind the Story Off

ABEL AND CAIN?

Adam and Eve had been bestowed by God All Mighty with two sons, Abel [Habil] and [Cain] Qabil. Qabil the older brother work as a farmer on the big land and his younger brother Habil was a shepherd. He owned many sheep and other animals.

On day the two brothers decided to make sacrifice as ordered by God to them. The big brother, Qabil took some of his crops for offering. He selected the worst crop for the sacrifice.

Habil choose the best sheep from his stock for the sacrifice. The offering by Habil was received by God but He rejected the offering by Qabil, because Habil did it sincerely but not Qabil.

Qabil was disgraced and very angered. He felt very shameful. He face became dark, and his heart became harder.

He was an envier. Envy is a slaughter that damage and kill the heart and human soul like a cancer that damage the organ of human body. Envy can spoil anything. It can tear off the relationship in a family, it can perish relationship between a country with another country, and between the race with another race in this world.

“I will kill you,” shouted Qabil to Habil on the top of his voice. But Habil did not shout back angrily to his brother, instead his spoke politely with his brother.

Habil with a low voice said, “Although you wanted to kill me, but I will not fight back, because I am afraid to Almighty God”.

Habil advice his brother no to commit the sin otherwise he will get bad punishment from God. The word did not have any meaning to the angered man. An en envier his heart and soul was burned by the fire of his cruel desired. Then he killed his younger brother who was innocent.

No long after that Qabil felt calm, his angered has resided. Then he felt guilty.

He did no know what to do with his brother corpse. Then a crow came and sat near the corpse. Then the bird scratched the ground near the corpse to show him how to keep his dead brother body.

Qabil dig a hole and buried the corpse with very regretful heart. Even the bird had given him a good lesson to learn.

Allah narrated the story in the al-Quran:

“And [O Muhammad saw] recite to the [the Jews] the story of the two sons of Adam Habil and Qabil-[Abel and Cain] in truth; when each offered a sacrifice [to Allah], it was accepted from the one but not from the other. The latter said to the former: “I will surely kill”. The former said, “Verily, Allah accepts only from those who are Al-Muttaqun [the pious].

“If you do stretch your hand against me to kill me, I shall never stretch my hand against you to kill you; for I fear Allah, the Lord of the Alamin [mankind, jinn and all that exists].

“Verily, I intend to let you draw my sin on yourself as well as yours, then you will be one of the dwellers of the Fire, and that is the recompense of the Zalimun [polytheists and wrongdoers].

“So the Nafs [self] of the other [later one] encouraged him and made fair-seeming to him the murder of his brother; he murdered him and became one of the losers.

“Then Allah sent a crow who scratched the ground to show him how to hide the dead body of his brother. He [the murderer] said, “Woe to me! Am I not even able to be as this crow and to hide the dead body of my brother?”. Then he became one of those who regretted”. Al-Maidah:27-31.

We read the story of Habil and Qabil in the al-Quran. We might think it is just an ordinary story as any others story we have read in a short story a novel. That is a story about the quarrelsome between two brothers who was indifference.

The Sufis read the story in difference way. To them the meaning of the story is goes beyond what we understand. They read it with their heart and soul.

To them the quarrel between Qabil and Habil is the beginning of the quarrel in the world, quarrel between the brothers in humanity. The seeds of the wars have been planted in this world. That was the first of human blood drop on the ground that caused by the evil of the envier.

To them what had happen in this world are not extraordinary evens, but it was a continuity story of the war between Qabil and Habil thousand of years ago.

They are not surprised if a person kill another person, or a group person killed a person or another group of person; they are not surprised if exploded dispute between the races, or exploded the wars between the nations, either in small or big field.

That is the continuity even that had been told in al-Quran through the story of Qabil and Habil. The same story happened again and again from time to time and from place to place with the same or difference contains or version, but the core behind the story is the same, the dirty heart and spoiled soul ridden by devil.

In that case the devil ride on the back of our bad desire and guides us to go to any places they pleased, surely at the end will throw us all in the hell of fire.

The story of Habil and Qabil teach us not to engage in any war between a person with another person, between a race with a race or between a nation with a nation, in a larger dimensions, because the war will destroy human being, all the good property and humanity in this mortal world.

Allah said, “Because of that, We ordained for the Children of Israel that if anyone killed a person not in retaliation of murder, or [ to spread mischief in the land- it would be as if he killed all mankind, and if anyone saved the life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind. And indeed, there came to them Our Messengers with clear proofs, evidences, and signs, even then after that many of them continued to exceed the limits [e.g. by doing oppression unjustly and exceeding beyond the limit set by Allah by committing the major sins] in the land”. Al-Maidah:32

Pray for Allah to save guard us from the envier when they envious:

“Say:”I seek refuge with [Alah], the Lord of the daybreak.

From the evil of what He has created

And from the evil of the darkening [night] as it comes with the darkness;[or the moon as it sets or goes away],

And from the evil of those who practice witchcraft when they blow in the knots

And from the evil of the envier when he envies”. Al-Falaq:1-5.
