RIVER as Symbol of Life

MOST of us have seen a river or rivers, at least through picture in TV or internets. But what is river?

River is great quantity of the water that flowing through channel to sea, lake, marsh or flow to other river.

From where is river get the water? All rivers receive their water either directly or indirectly from precipitation.

Do you know that, there are ten rivers that have been considered the longest rivers in the world?

The rivers are:

Nile is in Africa 6695 km.
Amazon is in South America, 6,439 km.
Yngtze is in Asia 6,379km.
Ob-Irtysh is in Asia, 5410 km.
Yellow is in Asia, 4672 km.
Amur is in Asia, 4464 km.
Lena is in Asia, 4,400 km.
Congo is in Africa, 4374 km.
Mackenze is in North America, 4270 km.
And Mekong is in Asia, 4184 km.

Who made the rivers? Allah Almighty made the rivers.

ALLAH had said in the al-Quran in Surah A-Ra’d [The thunder], verse 3 about the rivers, “And it is He who spread out the earth, and set thereon mountains standing firm [flowing] rivers”.

Allah also said in the al-Quran, Surah al-Baqarah [The Heifer], verse 249 about a story that connected with a river, “When Tallut [Saul] set out with the armies, he said, “Allah will test you at the stream, if any drinks of its water, he goes not with my army, only those whose taste not of it go with me ; a mere sip out of the hand is excused. But they all drunk of it, except a few”.

Lo, those who infringed Allah commanded had been struck by misery. They were very tired and could not go forward with the armies. Allah said, “ When they crossed the river-he and the faithful ones with him-they said “This day we cannot cope with Goliath and his forces”. Al-Baqarah verse 249.

The verse refer to a story when Thallut with his men and army on their way to cross a river, in order to fight with a terrorist, Jallut and his armies. Many of them were unfaithful to Allah, and only a little were followed God commanded. So Thallut had only a little army to fight with the enemies of God. Though, they won the battle, because they were faithful believers. Jallut was dead.

Allah prohibited them to drink from the river, only for a little bit just to satisfy their thirst. But they ignored it. Allah wanted to teach them not mislead by wealth and power during the struggle for the truth, so that it would not dread them to the wrong ways and lead them astray.

The water is very small meaning to them compared to what they were struggling to get freedom from the terrorist Jallut. But their heart and soul were in the hands of syaitan, who always mislead men to the wrong paths in order to make them their friends in the fire of the hell in the day after.

It is the message Allah wanted us to get from the story mention about Thallut, Jallut and their people. We should be very careful in every step we take in our struggle as order by God. And then we would be standing in the right step of the faithful men to the end of our life.

Today when I look at the flowing river my memory was flooded with many mementos that happened when I was boy and lived in Kampung Salor, a beautiful village situated near Kelantan river, and it open my mind to see the many secrets things that surrounded the river as source of our life that live in this world.

River is the source of life.

River is the source of inspiration.

River is the source of stimulating of our life.

River is a source of power for our internal and outwardly world.

River always flowed to the known destination – to the sea or lake, through many obstacles that hindered on it ways to reach its means but never setback.

River made its on ways to reach it destination, so that the water can always flow to reach the sea or lake as it end of the struggle.

As men we must have a good purpose like a river and have a clear vision in our life. We have to make our own ways to reach the summits that we aimed. If we did not have a purpose surely we will lost in the dark jungle of life and became astray. In order to get success and happiness we have to follow the rule of God.

During the flood, the water overflow the bank of the river and go to anywhere of the lower grounds. But when the flood ebbed, the water will flow back followed the ordinary way that it made before to reach the lake and sea. It happened again and again throughout history of the universe.

In our struggle to reach our aim if we happen to be fell, let we fell to the front not to fell backward, because falling forward is more nearest to our aim than if we fall backward. The most important is to stand up every time we fall in our life. That is the key to success.

Like the river we too have to march forward without halting to get what we want in our life. If we stop moving, we could not get anywhere.

We might be blocking by many problem on our way to success. Anyhow at last like river we have to follow the way that we have made before to reach successful in our life. We have to move forward to order to get our targets.

The rapid of the river are differences from times to times. Sometimes it flows very fast, sometime slow and any other times it looked like steadily. But in fact it is still flow to reach it destinations.

We have to be like that river. We have to flow and flow with energetic force to get our life’s visions.

We know that in the river there are many useful things that can be use by men to enrich their life, mostly as source off food. There so many kinds of fish in the river that have been used by men in the past realm off history.

Those who have rich knowledge in any field of life that are useful to men ought to be eagerly and freely be ready to help their fellow men to enrich their life in any field of knowledge they have, in spiritually or material in good way accordingly to the way of religion. If we did not do that it showed that we are greedy and selfish men. It is our duty to help them. God did not need such a selfish man.

We have to take river as a teacher. It tender but strong in flowing to reach its destinations. Nothing could block our way to rich our destinations. The river always flowed. Only Allah can change our way of life- the good life that we have made before.

We have to made river as our teacher. It always flowed to the direction it wanted to rich, through the jungle, hills or mountains to the sea or lake. Never set back. We have to make the river as our inspiration to our struggle in life. It showed that nothing that Allah had created in the world is useless.
