THE DIRECTION OF DA’WAH ORANG ASLI (ABORIGINAL PEOPLE) IN MALAYSIA: FOCUS ON GOVERNMENTAL DA’WAH ORGANIZATION

Introduction
Da’wah efforts among Orang Asli in Malaysia has been done by various organizations particularly by government agencies. Examples to these are Dakwah Division of JAKIM (Department of Islamic Advancement Malaysia), State’s Religious Councils, State’s Religious Departments and Jabatan Hal-Ehwal Orang Asli (Department of Orang Asli Affairs). Those agencies have their own directions,objectives and planning which signifies the different directions in relation to da’wah among Orang Asli’s community. The question arise here is, where actually their directions ? Were they agreed to only one direction or each of these organizations have their special directions ang planning? What is the priority of those organizations and what is the top priority given by the aforesaid organizations pertaining to their directions of da’wah among Orang asli? This paper, is therefore, try to explore the real situation concerning this particular issue.
Governmental Da’wah Organizations(GDO) and Da’wah towards Aborigines (Orang Asli)
As the aforementioned, there are several GDO’s undertaking da’wah among Orang Asli in Malaysia as the following:
a. Bahagian Dakwah Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM)
Bahagian Dakwah (Da’wah Division) for Department of Islamic Advancement Malaysia established on 1 January 1997. Before that, it was known as Institut Dakwah dan Latihan Islam (INDAH)/ Da’wah and training Institute of Islam, Bahagian Ugama Jabatan Perdana Menteri (Religious Division in the Prime Minister’s Deparment). INDAH, established in Rabiul Awal 1394 equal to April, 1974. The establishment of the Institute was to fulfill the people’s aspiration to see that there are an institute that has the responsibility to cater da’wah activities at federal level and throughout the country.
The establishment of INDAH began when the 6th National Conference on
Islamic Affairs (which took part on 16 December 1971), chaired by Tun Abdul razak Hussain (the Malaysian second Prime Minister) came to the decision to establish it. Tun Abdul Razak itself proposed the establishment of INDAH during the opening ceremony for the Religious Officers and Muballigh’s (Muslim Preachers) training course at National Administrative Institute in Petaling Jaya.
In the initial stage, INDAH had one Director and three assistance (1974). Basically, the establishment of INDAH was to implement the concept of da’wah based on the principle of Islam as ad-din (way of life) and to fulfil da’wah .................................................................................................
